Who, What, Why, When, HOW!?
Good question. We get asked that all the time. And the honest truth is, we don't really know! We've tried coming up with a good story, explanations, lies. Nothing sounds quite right. But we'll try to explain it the best we can.
So at the risk of sounding "new-agey", or "hippi-ish", or "granola-y" or just plain cheesy...
andFLEW! is a way of saying what we hope this studio will be to YOU. We hope that at our studio, you will find a dance style, a teacher, a class, a community, a way of expressing yourself, a good old-fashioned sweaty workout, or just a fun thing to do that will set your spirit free, make you feel like flying, revive your soul, experience life in a new way spread the joy around, and have the best day EVER!!! We want you to tell your friends that you had such a good time at class that when you left, you skipped andFLEW! down the sidewalk!
Because that is really what it is all about, and why this we got this place started in the first place.
And sometimes life just needs a little cheese.
The coolest thing about yoga is that it can be whatever you want it to be. For some people, it's an awesome workout. For others, it's a way to heal from an injury. It can be cross training for an athlete, incredible stress reduction, an excuse to spend some time with yourself, a way to heal emotionally, a way to limber up and build muscle at the same time, or even a deep spiritual experience.
Yoga is many different things for different people.
Yourself, some comfortable clothing and perhaps a water bottle. You may bring your own mat or props, or you are welcome to use the ones at the studio. It's recommended that you don't eat for a few hours before a yoga practice, though if you are really hungry, something light is usually ok. An open mind is a must, as you will be learning new things, and be sharing a class with many people in many different stages of their yoga practice.
No.
Though, as stated above, those with religious or spiritual beliefs may incorporate yoga into their beliefs. You do not to have any certain beliefs or religion to practice yoga.
Once a week to learn information.
Twice a week to see basic results.
Three to four times a week to see real progress.
Five or more times a week to see life changing results.
Modern Dance began to develop at the turn of the 20th century as a direct response to the rigidity and strictness of ballet. Over the years, it has branched and grown in many different directions, until it has become difficult to define. There are many different styles of modern dance, and many more still developing today. Generally speaking, modern dance seeks to use movement in a way that is more natural to the human anatomy, using human physicality, emotion and gravity together to create an ever changing, expressive way of movement. It has grown to envelope techniques of both jazz, ballet and native and folk dance. Unlike frequently believed, it is not a "freestyle" style dance, but has a deep technique-as does ballet- that takes years of dedicated work to master, resulting in the misleading quality of ease and naturalness so often seen in this style.
If the dancers are attempting to prove that gravity does not exist,
then it's ballet.
If the dancers are attempting to demonstrate that gravity does
exist and it's a *itch, then it's modern.
If the dancers are attempting to demonstrate that gravity does
exist but they'd rather die fighting it than give in to it,
then it's jazz.
Talk to us! We try our best to make classes accessible to everyone, regardless of financial circumstances. We have limited scholarships and work trades available. To be qualified for receiving one of these, you must prove yourself to be a dedicated, serious student.
There's lots of ways! We ALWAYS need help taking flyers around town. Word of mouth is our main source of advertisement, so talk us up! If you have a special talent, let us know, we are always needing extra help around the studio. You could arrange a bake sale or fund raiser to help generate scholarship money...
